Learning from life

Tonight's posting suggestion: St. Augustine was greatly troubled by the death of his friend, which made him reconsider how he thought about life. Have you had an experience that caused you to change how you think about the world and/or your place in it? What was the experience, and how did it change how you think?

  1. Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice actually did a lot for me when I was young. It may seem silly, but I was really into my Christian faith and didn't think about anything outside of my circle and what I had learned in church. But by reading that book, I think having received a deeper and slightly different version of the Christian faith helped open my eyes to the different philosophies and ideologies in the world.

After having read that book, I felt like a door of possibilities had been opened and I actually began to search information outside of my faith. Because of that, I now believe I view the world with colored eyes rather than black and white.
